George Steinbrenner, the owner of the New York Yankees and one of the most important men in baseball over the last 37 years, has passed away at the age of 80.  He took over sole ownership of the Yankees in 1973 and under his control the team won 11 pennants and 7 world championships.  Not one to shy away from controversy and spending money he took a once proud franchise and brought them back to one of the most valuable sport franchises in the world.  Over the last several years health issues has forced him away from the day to day management of his beloved Yankees and control has gone to his sons Hank and Hal.  According to reports he was rushed to a Tampa area hospital last night and passed away this morning.  This marks the second loss to the Yankee community in a week as the Voice of God, Bob Sheppard, also passed away recently.
