David Bechkam will not be able top participate in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa after tearing his Achilles tendon during a game against Chievo Italy today.

Beckham will not only miss the World Cup, but might possibly miss the entire season of the upcoming MLS season with the Los Angeles Galaxy.  This was most likely a swan song on the English club in International play as his game has fallen off from the days when he was one of the top players in the world.  The injury occurred without contact as Beckham shifted his weight with the ball at his feet.  He reach down to his heel and signaled the bench with a snapping motion to signal that the tendon was torn.   For a player the inspired kids around the world to play the game and also the movie Bend It Like Beckham this is not the way he wanted is career to come to an end.

Very sad to see. I knew immediatley it was bad since it was an obviouse tear. I hope maybe Capello can take him as the bench coach like Ferrara was for Italy in 2006..

This is really bad for him. I wish he will have a successful operation and he can play again soon. Good luck to him. He is one great player that I like!
