Arturo Gatti found dead 37

July 11, 2009

Arturo Thunder Gatti, the 37 year old former boxing champion who fought three epic matches against Mickey Ward, has been found dead in a Porto de Galihnas hotel room.  Gatti had arrived at the resort on Friday with his wife Amanda and 1-year-old son.

Very little information has been released about the cause of death or any details surrounding what happened. The only information that has come out is that the body had no bullet or stab wounds, bu there was blood in the hotel room.  Acelino “Popo” Freitas, a close friend of Gatti, stated that he was having problems with his wife and was about to separate from her.  More details should come out as the investigation gains steam.  For those of you that haven’t seen Gatti fight you will do yourself a favor by watching any of his battles against Ward.  Gatti retired from boxing in 2007 with a career record of 40-9 and 31 knockouts.
