Ed McMahon, best known for being the always laughing sidekick of Johnny Carson, has passed away at the age of 86. The well respected personality went on to host the popular talent show Star Search and showed up in everyone’s mailbox as the face of Publisher’s Clearing House. McMahon had been suffering from a number of health problems over the last year and mounting financial difficulties. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.

RIP Ed McMahon. The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Ed McMahon is timeless Americana. Let us also not forget that Ed McMahon was the host of the Star Search game show, which was really the original American Idol if you think about it.
