Mariana Bridi da Costa was on the brink of international stardom at the age of 20, but a rare infection led to an untimely and tragic death. Mariana was originally diagnosed with a severe kidney infection in December, but it spread and developed into septicemia which is the poising of the blood with bacteria. In a bid to save her life doctors amputate both of her hands, feet, kidneys, and part of her stomach. Mariana had competed for Brazil in the Miss Bikini International contest where she took home first place in the Best in Swimsuit category. She also took fourth place the last two years to become Brazil’s entrant in the Miss World Pageant. Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.
