We Deserve It Dividend

85 Billion divided by 200 Million = Financial Freedom

I found this forward interesting and thought I would share because I could use the money!

I’m against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I’m in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a ‘We Deserve It Dividend’.

To make the math simple, let’s assume there are 200,000,000 bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up.. So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a ‘We Deserve It Dividend’. Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let’s assume a tax rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

• Pay off your mortgage – housing crisis solved.

• Repay college loans – what a great boost to new grads

• Put away money for college – it’ll be there

• Save in a bank – create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

• Buy a new car – create jobs

• Invest in the market – capital drives growth

• Pay for your parent’s medical insurance – health care improves

• Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean – or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we’re going to re-distribute wealth let’s really do it….instead of trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( ‘vote buy’ ) economic incentive that is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we’re going to do an $85 billion bailout, let’s bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG –

• liquidate it.

• Sell off its parts.

• Let American General go back to being American General.

• Sell off the real estate.

• Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here’s my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn’t.

Sure it’s a crazy idea that can ‘never work.’ But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party! How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans know how to use the $85 billion We deserve the ‘We Deserve It Dividend’ more than the geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

And remember, The Family plan only really costs $59.5 billion because $25.5 billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh…I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

(Only problem….do the math)

OK, I may not be a mathematician, but 200 million into 85 billion is only $425…

    2. Shaun said on September 25th, 2008 at 7:23 pm

Actually, the math is a bit off. 85 billion divided by 200,000,000 is actually just 425… not 425,000. I agree with the sentiments though. The bailout is absurd. :)

    3. Kathi said on September 25th, 2008 at 10:45 pm

If one divides 85 billion by 200 million it works out to only $425 per person according to my calculator. I guess whoever worked up this e mail originally must have gone to the same school the accountants at the investment firms went to.

    4. Jen said on September 26th, 2008 at 2:28 am

My math also equals 425 not 425,000. Although 425000 would be reallllly sweet right now.

    5. Chris said on September 26th, 2008 at 2:55 am

So many people with strong opinions against this bailout, but with no knowledge or research on the reasons for it. The bottom line is a bailout of this sort is the only way to avoid another great depression, and even this bailout is not going to guarantee we don’t head down that path. Go read your history books, and then do some research on the state of affairs today before you form your ridiculous opinions.

    6. Kathy said on September 26th, 2008 at 10:30 am

Don’t forget the taxes. 30% would leave you with $297.50.

    7. Moddy said on September 26th, 2008 at 10:46 am

Ditto, I figured that also, $425. And some actuall believe this guys math. 425,000 would be 85 trillion not billions

    8. Rufus McCain said on September 26th, 2008 at 12:05 pm

I thought this was astonishingly brilliant … until I checked the math. It actually comes out to $425 per person. So this fellow is having a good joke on everyone.

Here’s a better plan from Quin Finnegan at korrektiv.org:

Keys to Surviving the Present Financial Crisis
I may not be a professional economist, or even an amateur one, but I know plenty about Depression, towards which everyone and everything seems to indicate we are headed. So I’ve decided to make my own four point plan available to the President, members of Congress, Wall Street tycoons and good taxpayers everywhere. Here it is:

      (1) Do your job, whatever that may be.

      (2) Eat healthy.

      (3) Spend as much time as possible with the people you love.

      (4) Get plenty of sleep.

If (1) proves to be a serious problem, your job is to get a job, or a better job.

    9. Paul DeCapo said on September 26th, 2008 at 1:59 pm

How about dividing the 85 billion and give it to everyone over 21 who makes under 150,000 PER YEAR with a clean criminal record. Someone please do the math on this one.

    10. Chris Szulc said on September 26th, 2008 at 2:16 pm

GREAT PLAN! Wait, your math is way off. Try $425 per person, not $425,000. Nice try.

    11. Cub Fan said on September 26th, 2008 at 2:28 pm

The math works out to $425 per person not $425,000. This is the downside to the web. Anyone with two fingers can get complete undeserved attention and people will actually pay attention to them. Scary.

    12. jack said on September 26th, 2008 at 4:25 pm

This is why liberals suc. They jump right in with out rechecking their figures.

    13. Mark said on September 26th, 2008 at 7:43 pm

Maybe we could put the $85-billion into schools to teach people proper math.

That way, people could really learn that $85-billion, divided by 200-million is actually just $425, not $425-THOUSAND DOLLARS!!!

I hope the email writer figured that out eventually. The writer spent so much time trying to figure out the taxes and stuff and never realized the original calculation was incorrect.

Those pesky decimal points. Should have stuck with Roman numerals. (Say,what IS the Roman numeral for billion?)

    16. talvod said on September 29th, 2008 at 11:04 am

My first though twas that he confused the types of billion, but the author clear writes 85,000,000,000.

billion can have 12zeros instead of 9.…

1,000,000,000 (one billion, short scale) is the natural number following 999,999,999 and preceding 1,000,000,001.

In scientific notation, it is written as 109.

In modern (short scale) English language usage, it is usually called a billion (although in many other languages and long scale usage, a billion means a million millions, or 1,000,000,000,000, instead of a thousand millions).

In India, it may be known as 100 crores.

The term milliard can also be used to refer to 1,000,000,000, though this terminology is rarely used in the English language, but often in other languages.

Physical quantities can be expressed using the SI prefix giga.

See Orders of magnitude (numbers) for larger numbers; and long and short scales.

    17. Orlando Ed said on September 29th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

the answer is only $425.00 pe person, not $425,000.00. It would take $85 trillion to provided 200 million people $425,000.00 each. Good thought though.

    18. Dave said on September 29th, 2008 at 4:46 pm

I received this email from a doctor friend and I did forward it assuming the math was correct! Even at $700 billion it’s only $3,500. That is correct, right? Damn all these big numbers! haha

    21. Smarty said on September 30th, 2008 at 7:42 pm

One billion is ten digits its a 1000 million
      85 billion is 11 digits
You dumbies don’t know what billion is.
      Its one big honkin number.
Most of you have failed 6th grade math.

      $ 425,000.00 per 200,000 people.

    22. Michelle said on September 30th, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Just for your info……$200 million into $85 billion is $425. NOT $425,000.

    23. Genius George said on September 30th, 2008 at 8:30 pm

I did the math and it’s actually $425 million for each adult over 18. Let’s do it!

    24. Jack said on October 2nd, 2008 at 3:12 am

Paul DeCapo, stupid idea. Just because I work hard and make over $150,000/year you want to give my money I pay in taxes to someone who is making less? Yeah, good idea. Makes me want to go out and work even harder! NOT!

    25. Zachary Bennett said on October 2nd, 2008 at 5:55 am

The math doesn’t work out on this… however, the thoughts are good.
How about using that money to return the foreclosures that started this (due to bank’s bad lending practices) or better yet, return everyone’s APR back to what they agreed to originally as a fixed rate instead of the rate that they can NOW not afford (tlked into by brokers and real estate agents) better even still take on the ENTIRE credit industry and stop credit cards that jack their rates to 20-30% if you are late on a payment! That never made sense - so you are late on a payment of your balance that’s at 6%, let’s put you at 30% and see how you do….. How stupid can corporate america be?.

    26. Bonnie said on October 2nd, 2008 at 12:24 pm

      [Edit]
1000 / 200 is the same a s 100 / 20, which is the same as 10 / 2 … when two numbers in a division share a number of trailing zeroes these can be cancelled out.
      85,000.000,000 = 85 billion

      200,000,000 = 200 million.

As both numbers have 8 trailing zeroes, we can cancel them out. This leaves us with 850 and 2. Now the division problem is much easier. 850 /2 = 425.

      So 85 billion divided by 200 million = 425.

      – edit —

In British English usage a billion has 12 zeroes. so the answer then would be 425,000

    27. Ant said on October 6th, 2008 at 9:44 pm

what you refer to as a bailout is really a 24 month LOAN capitalized by the US government, from which AIG may draw up to $85 billion. The loan is collateralized by the assets of AIG, and has an interest rate of 850 basis points over the three-month London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) (approximately 11.25% APY). In exchange for the credit facility, the U.S. government will own a 79.9 percent equity stake in AIG.

In the second quarter of 2008, AIG held assets of $1.050 TRILLION dollars. So, the US makes $102.22 BILLION in repaid principal and interest off the loan in two years, or, the US makes nearly $800 BILLION dollars (79.9% of $1.05 trillion) if AIG defaults.

Isn’t earning $17.22 billion in interest better than giving every adult in the U.S. $297.50

Perhaps you can re-do the math… WAIT, maybe you shouldn’t do the math.

The fools keep parroting this 425K nonsense without even doing the math. Thats why America is going down hill.

    29. Paul said on October 8th, 2008 at 3:23 pm

Well everyone knows the math is wrong. The person who figured it left off two “0″ on the math equation. $85 billion divided by 200,000 people is $425k. But instead of a $700 billion bailout. Lets just take that money and give it to every “homeowner” that is under the $150k a year income bracket. Wonder what the math would be then.

i cant believe people are still forwarding this guys bad math. so actually for a little over fifty cents a day for two years ,for each american ,we are saving a huge insurance co. from going belly up .so we are saving someone from loosing there job, life savings .not the big guy but some of the little guys. as caring americans we can afford fifty cents a day for two years

    31. Mark T said on October 22nd, 2008 at 8:44 pm

Heck lets do it even though it would require 85Trillion to get 425,000. They are just going to borrow it anyway! We will be stuck with paying it back so why not get something out of it! The D@mn liberals are going to give our country away to the terrorists, illegal’s and just plain bums anyway so lets get something out of it now while we still can!
