Armand Jones was an aspiring 18 year old actor that had just completed work opposite Hilary Swank in Freedom Writers. The movie about troubled youth growing up around gang, drugs, and violence that find direction by writing about their lives.
Armand played the role of Grant Rice in that film and he was killed before it ever hit the big screen. Jones was gunned down in 2006 in a Denny’s parking lot after being robbed. Two years have passed and arrests have finally been made in the case.
Damon Hill, 24, and Jarrell Kelly, 20, were charged with one count of murder, one count of attempted murder and three counts of second-degree robbery, plus sentencing enhancements for gang activity. They are serving three-year state prison terms for unrelated crimes.
It is always sad to see a young kid trying to make a better life meet with such a tragic end. Hopefully the arrests will help to aid some closure for his family. If you haven’t seen Freedom Writers it is worth taking 2 hours out of your day to watch something that will inspire.<
