David Archuleta was praised by the judges for both performances, but I found his second one to be boring and an insult to the original by Elvis. Syesha is absolutely stunning and she performed well enough to stick around. When she is on the stage you just want to watch her and she commands that attention. David Cool is by far the most Idol ready of the bunch and shows it with his performances. His second song made you forget his first and displayed his rock star mentality that could fill an arena. Jason Castro forgot words, was awful, seemed high, and has to go!
David Archuleta:
“Stand by Me” by Ben E. King and “Love Me Tender” by Elvis Presley (cover by Norah Jones)
Syesha Mercado:

David Cook:
“Baba O’Reilly” by The Who and “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran
Jason Castro:

Okay, now I’ve seen Jason. I stand by my opinion, but add the following:
The “I Shot the Sheriff” performance proves that Jason’s being a poseur with the dreds. I don’t know who his musically exactly, but he ain’t no Reggae artist. If he wan’ts long hair, cool, but something else.
As to the lyrics thing, Brooke did it twice, so I have to cut him some slack. At least he just kept on going (Jason, it’s “in the jingle jangle morning I’ll be following you.”). I actually liked that song better with him doing it than with Dylan doing it, but it did show his critical weakness which is that he is a performer of songs not an interpreter of songs and he doesn’t know who he is musically. I can’t say Syesha is much stronger in that regard, however, so we’ll see.
Hey,
I wanted to let you know first that you goofed slightly on Syesha — both links lead to the same song. Where are David Cook’s judges comments?
I haven’t seen Jason’s clips yet, but I have to say that I’m very partial to him and I hope he isn’t gone. At the same time, I recognize that it seems like for the last several weeks, he’s been performing like he takes his success for granted. I’d like to see him come back next week and put the naysayers to rest.
