Patrick Swayze has only weeks to live
Posted on March 5th, 2008Now I will take this story with an enormous hunk of salt considering the source is currently the National Enquirer, but it wouldn’t surprise me since Patrick Swayze is a heavy smoker. According to reports the actor has been battling cancer and receiving treatment in California.
For the past month, Patrick, 55, has been traveling to Stanford University’s prestigious cancer center in Palo Alto for radical chemotherapy, but his doctors are no longer optimistic that the treatments will be successful.
Patrick and his wife Lisa Niemi — who both have pilot’s licenses — have been flying their private Beechcraft plane into Palo Alto’s airport, minutes away from the Stanford Cancer Center, where the actor has received outpatient treatment.

This would be a sad end to a nice career for Swayze. I give him credit if it is true to be flying up to receive treatment because that stuff just beats the hell out of the body. Here is hoping this story isn’t tru and Patrick is doing just fine. If more info arises I will follow-up.

Okay, you are an idiot – way to jump to conclusions. If (and that’s a big if) this is true, the reports say that he has pancreatic cancer, completely unrelated to smoking. It is, however, one of the worst cancer diagnoses one can have as it is usually late-stage when it is diagnosed, it is aggressive and difficult to treat and there is essentially a 100% mortality rate. Very sad if it is true but please don’t start even more rumors by blaming his smoking!

The day a report comes out that tells me sucking harmful chemicals into your body for years helps prevent cancer I will remove the heavy smoker comment.

Pancreatic cancer is directly related to smoking, look it up pretty much anywhere on the internet.

Not only is Patrick Swayze a heavy smoker, but he was also treated for alcoholism. I work as a medical transcriptionist, and from what I can gather tobacco and alcohol combined are almost a guarantee of cancer of the esophagus, stomach, bowels, etc.
Michael Landon, who also died of pancreatic cancer, smoked 4 packs of cigarettes a day and was known to be quite a drinker.
I just wish that, like Yule Brenner, these celebrities would make a public service announcement regarding their use of cigarettes and how it led to their demise.

Can’t say I’m surprised about this. I remember seeing him in an interview ages ago and he was puffing away like mad.
Always seemed odd to me because he was such a fit and active bloke. Sadly, it seems the habit has finally caught up with him.

Your statement about pancreatic cancer being completely unrelated to smoking is UNTRUE. Smoking is in fact the leading risk factor for this disease. It increases one’s risk by 75%.

I know this is a month after the fact but Anna-Marie, YOU are the idiot and Ron you are just plain wrong. I’m an Oncology Clinical Specialist and if you look up anything about causes of pancreatic cancer you will invariably see SMOKING listed.
I don’t know what back of the cereal box you both got your info from but your righteous indignation is pretty laughable since you’re both DEAD WRONG.
