Did David Archuleta just cover Eva Cassidy’s version of Imagine?

Did David Archuleta really interpret Imagine to make it his own or did he just cover a rendition performed by Eva Cassidy? This discussion is taking place on a lot of message boards now and I was curious about your feedback. The judges praised him for making the song his own thinking he took Lennon’s original and put together his own style for the show, but obviously he was basing his performance wasn’t based on the original.

    Lennon sings of what heaven will be – although he has it a bit turn around. Surely, with his untimely death at a very young age – he found that world he was singing for and now he lives there as one.
