Perfect no more….Giants Win!

February 3, 2008

Super Bowl XLII has come to a close with one of the top upsets in history with the Giants defeating the Patriots 17-14. The New York Giants came into the game as 14 point underdogs, but performed like a team that has been disrespected and under appreciated all season. Their top ranked pass rushing defense sacked Tom Brady five times, held the Patriots to a season low 14 points, and turned the tables by driving for the winning score late in the fourth quarter. The Pats have made a habit of last second game winning fourth quarter drives over the last several seasons. Their shot at history to become the fist 19-0 team and only second undefeated team during the playoff era came to an end.

Eli Manning emerged as the game MVP to follow in he footsteps of his older brother Peyton who took home the same award last year. He wasn’t spectacular, but he came through all game in the clutch. Completing third down passes, avoiding sure sacks, and hitting Plaxico Burress for the game winning score with under a minute left in the game.
