Jason Lee, star of “My Name is Earl”, has signed on for a unique project based on a cartoon.  Lee will star as the father of the rodents in the Chipmunks.

My Name is Earl star Jason Lee will star as David Seville in Fox’s upcoming movie Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Production on Chipmunks is scheduled to begin March 28, and the movie has a projected Dec. 14 release date.

For those of us that grew up with the Chipmunks and remember them from Saturday mornings will probably enjoy this film.  Kids today don’t get to see the Alvin, Simon, and Theodore so it will be interesting to see if parents bring their kids to see part of their history.  I hope Lee will be cleaning himself up a bit because it would be nice to see him not looking like white trash for a few weeks.
