Similar names enable some people to gain fame they don’t deserve and Mariah Carey doesn’t want her name associated with a porn star.

Mariah Carey is threatening legal action against Mary Carey, because the adult entertainer is planning to trademark her similar-sounding stage name.

The singer is worried fans might confuse the two performers if Mary Carey’s application to trademark her name for audio and video recordings is successful.

I’m not sure what people would be confused by this name thing, but I guess if you wander into the back room of a video store looking for A Mariah Carey Christmas and accidentally pick up Mary Carey Does Santa it could scar the children. The fact of the matter is no one would have known about this if Mariah had kept her mouth shut, but now millions of people like me will Google Mary to see what kind of range she has.
